DIY vs Pro Install blog post. Be patient. This is my first attempt at drive-by blogging.
Of course, being in the professional resurfacing industry, I'm going to be somewhat bias as to my answer but this is also a result of 25 years of home renovation experience. Bathtub refinishing is not like installing laminate flooring or painting a bedroom. Both of which are excellent DIY projects I would encourage anyone to try. Quality bathtub refinishing is all about surface prep and the use of marine grade quality of products. Without those two critical ingredients you will have a bathtub that is blistering, peeling and chipping within a few short months of the install. I can't tell you how many tubs I have gone in and resurfaced after a homeowner had bravely tried a weekend project of tub resurfacing. Not to mention, stripping a previously resurfaced tub cost a couple hundred bucks.
Now, in all fairness, I have also redone countless tubs where a "professional" had resurfaced the tub and the results were the same as the DIY kit. Blistering, peeling and chipping. It is all about the surface preparation and products used. It's like a building with a bad foundation and or sub-par material. You will not have much of a building for very long.
Don't take my word for it. Take a look at what Angie's List has to say about it.
You want the peace of mind that your tub will be beautiful and durable for years to come.
